Scripture:

To whom will you liken me and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be alike… Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me,” Isaiah 46:5,8-9

Observation:

God is calling out idols in the Israelites’ lives in these passages, and reminding them that they have put things in His rightful place. We may not make things out of gold to worship anymore, but it’s all too easy to be like the Israelites and elevate things in our lives to an importance level that supersedes God. Nothing should be more important than Him, because nothing can fulfill you like a relationship with Him will.

Application:

Do you have an idol in your life? Maybe you’ve made one without even realizing it. Maybe it’s a job, a goal, a relationship, or even a feeling that you’re chasing and elevating above Him. Stop today, acknowledge and let go of whatever it is, and set God above it all. Only He can satisfy.

Prayer:

Lord only you can fill me. Only you can meet my needs. I don’t want to waste my life chasing after things that don’t really matter. Forgive me Lord. I choose today to put you above it all. Amen.
