Come Out Of The Cave

Scripture:

David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and his father’s household heard about it, they went down to him there. 1 Samuel 22

Observation:

David escaped to the cave of Adullam as a form of protection but when his friends and family heard about it they came to him. David had to go into the cave in the form of a stronghold but he couldn’t stay there forever. The ones who loved him knew that his decision to hide was really a call for help.

Application:

Have you ever felt like you needed to retreat and hide? Maybe it was forced on you because of what’s going on in the world right now or maybe it was a decision because you needed to recharge. Whatever it may be, God is telling us to come out of the cave, if even enough to poke our head out and call a trusted friend. Don’t do life alone.

Prayer:

Jesus, even you had moments where you needed to go away on your own to talk to the Father but you never walked through life alone. You had your trusted circle of friends you built connections with who followed you no matter the path. Lord, we want to accept help from those who recognize we are in a pit of despair and we also want to be the friend who notices when others need a helping hand up and out of the dark. Jesus, thank you for being that light that guides us. Amen.
