Reset My Priorities

Scripture:

What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” Matthew 6:33 (MSG translation)

Observation:

God already knows what our priorities should be. Jesus challenges us in this verse to focus on what’s most important (putting first things first). When we look at our priorities, what are we focused on? Are our priorities wrapped around our need for more, or do they reflect a deep understanding of God’s character and His goodness in our own lives?

Application:

What are you prioritizing? Are you focused on getting, on needing more, on fear of missing out? Or are you focused on moving forward in the confidence that God will provide, therefore freeing yourself to focus on more important things?

Prayer:

Jesus, help me to steep my life in your reality. Help me to put your priorities above all else. Thank you for always meeting my needs Lord. You never leave me destitute, and you never fail to help me when I call out to you. Help me to walk in the freedom that that knowledge brings me today, and live my life in a new way. Amen.
